Calling all e-bike riders! There are some great e-bike apps that make cycling easier. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the five best e-bike apps for iPhone and Android users. Take a look at them and decide for yourself which e-bike app is right for you.

More connectivity, more smart functions – digitization has long since found its way into bicycle technology. One of the key players in this development is the smart phone. Whether for navigation, to record training sessions or network with other cycling enthusiasts, the iPhone and Co. have become essential companions for the majority of the cycling population on their journeys in the saddle. Apps play a major role in this. Whether for the iPhone or Android – there are now a wide range of applications that are also of interest to e-bike riders. We have listed the five best apps below to make your e-bike experience even more exciting and digital.

KOMOOT APP

If there’s one app that has established itself as the market leader when it comes to planning tours in recent years, it’s Komoot. There are now 20 million registered users on the platform. Komoot offers all the functions that touring bikers want, from planning a trip in advance and GPS tracking during training through to the subsequent evaluation of a tour. The offline function is particularly practical: this allows you to download offline maps at home and continue navigation even in areas without network coverage. In principle, the app is free, but there are also some in-app purchases. Awesome: voice instructions let you concentrate fully on your touring experience – so you can find your way even in the depths of the forest. By the way: once you have saved your tour on Komoot, you can synchronize it with the FIT e-bike control app. Not only can you enter settings more comfortably in the FIT app, manage multiple bikes and optionally use it as a drive screen, it can also be used as a navigation unit in combination with Komoot. This means you can easily follow your Komoot-generated tour with FIT. Both the Komoot app and the FIT app are available from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

BIKE CITIZENS APP

The e-bike app from Bike Citizens is free and available for iOS and Android devices. This e-bike app provides an interactive map showing the best cycle routes in your area. It also shows you how far you still have to go to your destination. What's more, you can upload photos and comments about your tours in the e-bike app and share them with other cyclists. In addition to the free version, there is also a premium membership, which is activated by registering for free in the app and offers some additional benefits. A number of premium functions will then be provided free of charge within a seven-kilometer premium area. If you want to enjoy all of the features, worldwide and without restrictions, you can choose full Premium membership with a monthly or annual subscription.

STRAVA APP

Over 95 million users worldwide – Strava is currently the standard app for all sports enthusiasts. The app records riding and training data, and can also integrate pulse and performance. Strava’s functions are based on the GPS tracks that are uploaded by users. The platform uses these to calculate best times, performances and training data. Users can take on new challenges every month and also compete against each other on routes they define themselves. Please note: to keep things fair, e-bike tours are excluded from these rankings, which is why it is important to label your tours accordingly as e-bike tours. But even without ranking lists, Strava is an excellent tool for documenting tours or planning routes. The Strava app is available free of charge; on the online platform itself a distinction is made between a reduced free version and a paid premium version with full functionality. The app is available from both the App Store and the Google Play Store.

LADE.STATION APP

There is nothing more annoying than standing on the side of the road during an e-bike tour with a flat battery. To prevent this from happening, the creators of the Lade.station app have come up with a collection of e-bike charging stations. The app lists a total of over 4,000 charging stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland – with more being added every day. The idea is as simple as it is ingenious: when out and about, you can use the app to find the nearest charging station and take a break there with a coffee while power is restored to your e-bike battery. The app is free and available from both the App Store and the Google Play Store.

FIT E-BIKE CONTROL APP

Your app, full control – that’s the motto of Biketec’s e-bike app. With the app, you can manage all of your e-bikes with FIT 2.0 components (from model year 2021) or plan your next tour. Some exciting additional functions are also available through in-app purchases: the FIT Drive Screen lets you use your smart phone to display riding and navigation data instead of a display. This means you have everything on one screen. Lock and unlock the motor as well as all of your e-bike's electronic components with the FIT Digital Key. This makes it easy to unlock or lock your e-bike via Bluetooth. If you use a hand-held transmitter instead of the digital key and forget or lose this, there is also the FIT Emergency Key that lets you unlock the bike once in an emergency. The tire pressure monitoring and data display as well as the new Geo Range function are further practical features. The Geo Range function shows you how far your e-bike can take you with the remaining battery capacity at the various assistance levels on a map. The app is available from both the App Store and the Google Play Store.
